D-list celeb-by-association Adrienne Bailon purposely leaked her own nude photos as a public relations stunt to drum up press coverage, says her close friend, Hollywood publicist Jonathan Jaxson.

“Last week I was working with Adrienne and we decided to do a little extra publicity for her image,” Jaxson told a CBS affiliate in Atlanta. “She had her laptop stolen [recently] at an airport in NYC,” he explained. “We got the police report, but it wasn’t good enough. So we decided to juice it up, and what better way to do that than to say that nude pictures could have been stolen from her laptop?”

Jaxson says Bailon was eager to sex up her image. “She wanted to distance herself from the whole Disney image,” he says. “What better way than with a couple of sexy shots?” Jaxson says Bailon was intimately involved with the plot when he contacted celebrity websites to plant the photos. “She was on the other line with me while I was talking to them,” he says.

But then, the PR stunt went horribly wrong when–gasp!–Bailon’s nude pictures actually surfaced all over the Internet. “She’s Disney, so we never thought in a million years the pictures would get out, and what happens? Nude pictures surface.”

Disney executives were reportedly upset when they learned of the leaked photos. Jaxson says Bailon then “blamed the whole thing” on him. “I was just doing a favor - a favor for a friend. I never thought it would turn into this big thing,” he explains.

There’s nothing wrong with a Hollywood D-lister trying to drum up publicity, but it’s laughable when a so-called nude photo leak is immediately followed up by a press release (from the perpetrator) expressing shock, indignation and threats to sue. The layers of hypocrisy inherent in staging a phony PR stunt is just absurd.

Bailon, 25, must have gotten the nude-photo-leak idea from her future sister-in-law, sex tape star, Kim Kardashian, 28. Adrienne has been dating Kim’s brother Robert Kardashian Jr., 21, for over a year.

In 2007, Kim became a tabloid sensation when her sex tape mysteriously surfaced on the Internet. Since then, Kardashian has parlayed her 15 minutes of fame into her own reality tv show (where she has featured Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon) and has become a cover girl for numerous hip-hop magazines and celebrity tabloids. Kim also makes money from public appearances and as a product spokesperson.

This phenomenon of young women attempting to becoming famous by accidentally-on-purpose leaking their nude photos or sex tapes has become so commonplace in Hollywood that it no longer even raises eyebrows. I guess when you’re short on talent (as the 4′11″ Bailon and the 5′2″ Kardashian are), you have to take extreme measures…
